A Great Start to Year Six

We would all like to welcome you to the Year Six blog, and say what an amazing and purposeful start we have had to the new academic year. The children have come back to school, after what has been a very strange time, with a very positive learning attitude and a keenness to follow all the new procedures and settle back in to school life quickly.

We will use the blog to try, wherever possible, to inform you, on a regular basis, of any information and reminders, that we think will be useful.

Firstly, can I just remind you that our PE days are on a Wednesday and a Friday, and so children can come to school in their school PE kit. Homework will be set twice a week: Reading Comprehension will be sent home on a Friday, to be back in school on Monday, and Maths homework (linked to previous and current learning) will be sent home on a Wednesday and needs to be back in school on a Friday. Finally, wherever possible, please encourage your child to read a quality text and listen to your child read. If your child is listened to by an adult at least three times a week, please could you send in a signed note confirming this and there your child’s name will be entered in the reading raffle. We are always extremely grateful for your continuing support.

Please do not hesitate to contact us through the office if you need to speak to us, and we will contact you at the earliest and most convenient opportunity.

We wish you all a lovely weekend, with all our fingers crossed for a continuation of this lovely weather.

Goodbye Year 6!

It has been a strange year! We wish all of our leavers good luck for the future. You have all been amazing and resilient through such a challenging time.

Parents, thank you for your support and kind words. We will be sending the links for our Leavers films out later today. You will have 20 days to download the films and then the link will expire. Please do not post these films on social media, they are for your personal use only. Some of our children cannot be on social media.

Have a wonderful summer and we will hopefully see you all on September 5th for your leavers celebrations.

Mrs Wistow, Mrs Ward & Mrs Clamp

Road Safety Advice for Transition

Please see the following advice from Oxfordshire County Council

Good morning

With the summer holidays fast approaching the thoughts of your Year 6 children and their parents will be turning to their move on to new secondary schools. They will face many changes at this time, including travelling to school on their own perhaps for the first time.

If children are ill-prepared as pedestrians, they are much more likely to be killed or injured in a road traffic incident, seen by the fact that the number of child pedestrian casualties rises significantly around 10-12 years old – the time at which they begin to go out unaccompanied by adults.

The summer holidays will be the perfect time for your Year 6 children and their parents to prepare for this journey to their new school. At the Road Safety team, we have produced an updated version of our Transition Guide for Parents, information which will help parents prepare their child for the new journey to secondary school.

Please find attached a PDF document of the Transition Guide which we would ask you to send out to all your Year 6 parents via Parentmail before they leave you at the end of the school year.

If you need any further support or information, then please feel free to contact me.

Thank you.

Best wishes

Leavers’ Film

Dear Parents,

We are currently filming our Leavers’ film. For those children not in school, we would still love you to be part of our film.

Below are two links of inspiration. Could you film your child in black and white clothing, catching and throwing a toilet roll as in the second video? The clip needs to be filmed in landscape and be no longer than 4 seconds. If you could email this to: class9@bureparkprimary.org by FRIDAY 26th JUNE at the latest.

Inspiration video 2 (can you spot somebody you know?)

Leavers Photographs – Reminder

Please could ALL parents send a copy of a picture of your child as a baby or toddler. As we cannot have paper in school this would need to be a digital picture please. Could this be sent to the email: class9@bureparkprimary.org Please mark the subject line as your child’s name. Please send by FRIDAY 19th JUNE. For the children in school we will take the photographs mentioned in the paragraph below.

If you would like your child to be in the video and they are not in school, please also send:

  1. a head and shoulders shot of your child in their school uniform in landscape.
  2. A head and shoulders shot of your child in their school uniform holding a piece of paper saying what they would like to be when they grow up, in landscape. (This paper will be available for collection from the school office from tomorrow)

Please could this also be sent to class9@bureparkprimary.org by FRIDAY 19th JUNE
